Nelly waited a little too long to talk about the Mike Brown shooting. Naturally, Twitter isn’t having it, especially after he tweeted about Cheerios before making  a statement about Brown.

Just because he’s from St. Louis doesn’t mean he’s a spokesperson for the area but nonetheless, five days of no comment ended yesterday on the airwaves of Hot 104.1 radio station in St. Louis. He jumped on air for a good three hours yesterday to explain his stance on the Brown shooting, and uprisings in Ferguson over the past week or so.

Instead of aligning with the outraged residents, he told everyone to calm down, think before they act, and stop disrespecting Brown’s legacy.

That “Country Grammar” didn’t translate well because the reaction wasn’t overwhelmingly positive. Even some of the callers went in on him. Their complaint was that Nelly doesn’t get the whole picture of exactly what’s been going on in Ferguson before Brown was shot. He’s from the area, but  maybe he’d rather talk things out than resort to violence. There’s nothing wrong with that.

Check some of the reactions to his interview in the gallery.
