The first Black, inter-collegiate Greek-lettered fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., has offered to pay the funeral costs of slain teen Michael Brown. The 18-year-old was shot and killed by Officer Darren Wilson on August 9 in Ferguson, and the incident has led to protests and unrest in the Missouri town ever since.

In the letter, dated May 14 but revealed today (August 19), the fraternity’s general counsel, Wayne C. Harvey, confirms a conversation the organization’s general president, Mark S. Tillman, had with a Brown family member expressing the desire to pay for all the funeral and memorial services.

Unfortunately, a funeral date for Brown has yet to be set pending autopsies to determine the circumstances of his death.
