Nickesse “Nicky Da B”  Toney , a rising star in the New Orleans bounce music scene, has died at the age of 24. No word on the cause of his death has yet been released, but he was currently working on a release with famed producer Diplo.

Nicky Da B’s management issued a statement to the Wondering Sound website regarding his passing, offering glowing remarks about him and stating condolence to his family.

The statement read:

“It is with heaviness in our hearts today that we confirm the passing of Nicky Da B. Nicky was a beautiful soul and we will always be grateful for his magnetic personality and loving spirit. We were inspired by his talent as much as his tireless optimism, compassion and humility. Our condolences go out to his family at this time.”

Diplo took to Twitter to mourn the loss of Nicky Da B. The pair worked together on the popular track “Express Yourself,” which Diplo noted in his tweets.

“He was not only an important figure for New Orleans.. Bounce music.. He was a good friend and gave me one of my defining songs,” tweeted Diplo. He added the pair were collaborating on an album to be released on the Mad Decent imprint.

Fellow Bounce artist Big Freedia also tweeted Tuesday evening regarding the loss.
