Dwayne Johnson had DC Comics fans on pins and needles as they anticipated whether or not the actor and pro wrestling legend would play the role of superhero Shazam or its top villain. Using social media, the megastar otherwise known as The Rock confirmed the news that he’ll take the role of Black Adam.

The decision shouldn’t come as much of a shock as Johnson already admitted he’s got a soft spot for antiheroes. In playing Black Adam, he will be undertaking the role of a former Egyptian super-powered hero who turns bad. Much like Shazam, Black Adam has powers of super-strength, flight, and magic.

“Kneel at his feet or get crushed by his boot.” My honor to become.. #BlackAdam #TheAntiHero #DCComics,” tweeted Johnson, along with an image of Black Adam and Shazam going to battle from the comics.

New Line President Toby Emmerich, who will be releasing the film, expressed his joy at Johnson taking on the role.

“Black Adam is a complex character,” he said to Entertainment Weekly. “The villain in superhero movies is often, I think, what makes the movie. And I thought Dwayne’s take on the character, and the way that he saw Black Adam, was really compelling and fun.”

There is no date set for the Shazam movie. The lead actor for the hero’s role also has not been selected.
