In one of the more bizarre stories to cross our paths recently, a Ghanaian soccer player was arrested for allegedly leading a group of men to beat a journalist last week. The reason? The reporter supposedly asked the player if he sacrificed a missing rapper as part of a ritual. Yes, we’re confused too.

Thanks to stories compiled by Deadspin’s Screamer, the story began when Castro, real name Theophilus Tagoe, and his girlfriend went missing this summer. The story gets tricky as Castro was a close friend of Baffour Gyan and Ghanaian national soccer team skipper, Asamoah Gyan. Apparently, the Gyan brothers were on vacation with Castro when the rapper and his girlfriend went missing after renting a jet ski. The brothers released a statement this past June about the case, hoping for Castro’s safe return.

According to Ghanaian news outlet, The Graphic Online, Baffour Gyan led a group “thugs” in beating down reporter Daniel Kenu. What angered Gyan was that a group of young men approached the footballer alleging he used Castro as ritual sacrifice during a press conference held at a Black Stars practice session. Kenu followed up asking if this were true, which angered Gyan and he had to be restrained according to Graphic writers.

From WorldSoccer:

“Kenu is reported to have said: “This will not be in a good taste…It has nothing to do with the upcoming match but I wish to appeal to Asamoah Gyan to clear the air.. There is this allegation that you sacrificed Castro for whatever reason…………”

The Ghana FA told Gyan to ignore the question but a furious Gyan had to be restrained after he tried to confront the reporter.”

Gyan and Samuel Anim Addo, an “errand boy” for Gyan’s younger brother, allegedly led “machomen” to beat down Kenu and were arrested. The pair were released on bail last Saturday amid police investigations.

To make matters even stranger, there has been rumors that the younger Gyan mother sacrificed his mother to be made captain of the Black Stars team. There is also a curious matter of a prophet who claims he knows what happened to Castro on that July night.
