Former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice is undertaking a legal fight in an attempt to appeal his indefinite suspension from the NFL. Rice’s impetus for the appeal are claims from his side that the tape showing him striking his then-fiancee was edited.

According to an ESPN report, legal sources tell the network that Rice will look at ways to upend his suspension stating that TMZ’s clip of the domestic violence assault in an Atlantic City casino elevator. was a doctored version.

More from ESPN:

Rice’s side is expected to argue that the NFL suspended the former Baltimore Ravens running back indefinitely off an edited videotape that was not the extended version.

Robert Mueller, who has been appointed by the NFL to investigate the league’s handling of the Rice case, also is expected to have access to the contents of the full elevator security video, not just the edited TMZ version, according to sources.

The Ravens released Rice on Sept. 8 just hours after TMZ released the video of him punching Janay Palmer, who was knocked unconscious when her head hit a railing inside the elevator.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and the league has faced extreme criticism over the handling of the Rice case, blasting the former two-game ban that was handed down before suspending him indefinitely after the longer clip was revealed.
