While the verdict for Rush Hour 4 is still lost at sea, CBS and the film’s original director, Brett Ratner are bringing the franchise’s script to primetime television.
Deadline has discovered that CBS has ordered an adaptation of the film to be developed into a hour-long TV pilot. Ratner will serve as the executive producer, Bill Lawrence and Blake McCormick will share the executive producing duties and will write the episode and Arthur Sarkissian will also produce.
The cop comedy film trilogy, which starred Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker over the period between 1998–2007, was a proven success, grossing nearly a billion dollars worldwide ($849.7 million) and have widely been considered to be amongst the best in both actor’s catalog.
According to the current plan, the TV show’s script will follow the movie’s premise, as it will pit a no-nonsense cop from Hong Kong with a rogue, wise-cracking Black officer from the Los Angeles Police Department.
Lawrence and McCormick have a proven chemistry from their work on Courtney Cox’s surprise hit Cougar Town and Ratner obviously knows the routine when it comes to the opposite’s attracting big audiences.
