Dr. Cornell West was among a group arrested in Ferguson, Mo. during protests Monday (Oct. 13). Members of the community continue to be outraged by the gunning down of 18-year-old Mike Brown in August, and that shooting officer Darren Wilson has not been arrested.

A new round of protests dubbed “FergusonOctober” on social media, ignited in the St. Louis suburb this month, escalating to more arrest this past weekend. Dr. West was on hand for “Moral Monday” as a show of support for the movement largely spearheaded by a younger generation of protestors using their right to civil disobedience.

“We’re here because we love the young folk,” he said. “We want them to know that there’s some older generations brothers and sisters of all colors who are willing to put their bodies on the line so that justice will roll down like water and righteousness, like a mighty stream.”

Not long after that statement, West and demonstrators were denied a request to speak with the Ferguson police chief. They were arrested moments later.
