A South Carolina teacher was caught allegedly driving drunk on her way to school Monday (Oct. 21) morning, with a student in the car. Jan Munch Curtis was arrested for DUI and child endangerment in the parking lot of Red Bank Elementary School after she was caught driving erratic.

Reports The State:

Lance Cpl. David Jones, a highway patrol spokesman, said Jan Curtis was arrested by a highway patrol trooper after she was stopped for reckless driving by a Cayce police officer in the parking lot of Red Bank Elementary.

Curtis had picked up a child from the child’s parents’ house on the way to work, according to an incident report filed with the department.

Dash cam video recorded with the Cayce police officer’s on-board camera showed Curtis driving over the center line of Old Barnwell Road and veering off the right side of the road, the report said. Curtis then had difficulty pulling into a parking space in the parking lot of Red Bank Elementary.

Curtis told officers she had two glasses of wine the night before, but the report said she failed the field sobriety test administered by the trooper. A breathalyzer test revealed Curtis had a blood alcohol content of .10 percent, according to the report.

The child was released into the school’s custody, and the Department of Social Services was notified of the incident.

Mary Beth Hill, a Lexington School District One spokeswoman, said district officials have not made contact with Curtis since her arrest.

Curtis might want to address some of her drinking issues, seeing as how there was a child in the car. She will likely be put on  administrative leave pending an investigation, the school’s spokesperson said.
