Former NBA player Daron “Mookie” Blaylock was sentenced to 15 years for killing a woman during a head on collision last May. Blaylock pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide in the death of 44-year-old Monica Murphy.

He apologized to the victim’s husband, Frank Murphy, before being remanded into custody.

The plea deal states that Blaylock will spend three years behind bars with seven years suspended, and eight years’ probation, and he will not be allowed to drive for 15 years. Blaylock’s sentence also includes community service, and classes to treat alcoholism.

Attorney, Amanda Palmer, says the retired professional athlete blacked out during the crash due to a medical condition. Alcohol was ruled out as a factor. “He has admitted he has a problem with alcohol and he is getting treatment for that.”

Blaylock was hospitalized and placed on life support after the crash.
