Last January, R&B megastar Mary J. Blige‘s father was stabbed by a woman reported as his ex-girlfriend after a dispute in Battle Creek, Mich. After a series of conflicts with the woman, justice was served Tuesday as a judge sentenced the attacker to 365 days in prison.

Cheryl White, 50, was already serving time in the Calhoun County jail as she awaited sentencing in the January assault. She faced charges of assault with intent to murder. Blige’s 63-year-old father, Thomas Blige, has been enduring a number of run-ins with White with the stabbing as the most violent occurrence of them all.

More from the Battle Creek Enquirer:

White was charged with stabbing Thomas Blige, 63, on Jan. 23 outside his apartment in the 200 block of Oakbrook Boulevard on Battle Creek’s south side.

Blige suffered stab wounds to his neck, chest and arm but recovered. He has moved out of state, officials said, and was not present in Calhoun County Circuit Court when White was sentenced.

Battle Creek police had been called several times because of domestic violence between White and Blige.

Blige told police that morning he saw White outside cutting tires on his vehicle. When he confronted her she fled, but when he caught her she stabbed him with a kitchen knife.

White copped to the stabbing after being found covered in blood in her nearby apartment. The knife she used  in the crime was found at Blige’s apartment. White pleaded no contest in September and went into a plea agreement with prosecutors stating she would not receive more than a year in jail.

The judge in the case, Conrad Sindt, accepted the plea and placed White on probation for five years. She also has to pay $17, 290 in hospital fees to Mary Jane Productions after the singer paid for her father’s bills.

Judge Sindt also ordered White to not have contact with Blige during her probation and to complete counseling and mental health treatment.
