The Bay Are Rapid Transit was met with delays and an ultimate shut down Friday (Nov. 28) morning as a group of protestors descended upon a station in  West Oakland.  The protests stem from a Missouri  grand jury’s decision not to indict police officer Darren Wilson for gunning down Ferguson teen, Mike Brown, and ongoing cases of  cops killing civilians and facing little-to-no consequence.

Demonstrators chained themselves to trains on either side of the station before being arrested by police.  The peaceful protests follows a similar event during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City yesterday.

As was the case with New York, the movement found life online. Several people tweeted photos and videos under the hashtags #BlackLivesMatter and #BARTLockdown.

BART train service was restored about two hours later.

Oakland is the Bay Area city where 22-year-old Oscar Grant was shot dead by a BART police officer on New Year’s Day in 2009. His family was awarded a $1.3 million settlement from the city.
