Darren Sharper, the former New Orleans Saints player and NFL analyst, has been hit with federal drug charges in addition to the rape charges he faces. Sharper was charged with distributing a date rape cocktail along with conspiracy charges related to the drugs by a federal grand jury.

TMZ Sports broke news of the latest legal hurdle for the former pro football star, adding to a staggering list of charges dating back to 2010 up until this year. Sharper was not alone in his crimes, as it was reported that he and an accomplice admitted to raping two women in November 2013. This latest indictment adds mew developments to the unfortunate case.

TMZ writes:

Sharper was indicted by a federal grand jury for conspiracy to distribute generic versions of Valium, Xanax, and Ambien … with intent to commit rape between January 2010 and May 2014. He was also charged with 2 counts of actually distributing the drugs with intent to rape.

An Ex-sheriff’s deputy in New Orleans, Brandon Licciardi, was hit with the same charges … in addition to witness tampering and impeding an investigation.

Since September of 2013, Sharper has been under investigation by authorities in four states regarding the date rape accusations. Back in February, Sharper turned himself in to jail in Los Angeles after an eighth rape accusation went public.

TMZ added that the grand jury slapped charges on Sharper dating to May of this year and essentially dismissed them. Sharper has been locked up since February 2014, so it’s not possible he was selling the drugs from behind bars.
