Rudy Giuliani has been a fixture in conservative media and political round-table discussions of late as the ongoing debate surrounding police brutality continues to mount. The former mayor of New York used his platform to blast current mayor Bill de Blasio, stating that the leader deserves the current spate of disrespect he’s getting from the NYPD.

Mayor de Blasio has been attacked by the NYPD’s police union for stirring up an anti-cop sentiment ahead of his election and in recent times. Giuliani was a guest on Fox & Friends Sunday (Dec. 27) and shared that de Blasio’s stances against the past administration’s application of the controversial “stop and frisk” policy might be at the heart of the rift.

On Saturday, Mayor de Blasio was eulogizing fallen officer Rafael Ramos when hundreds of officers turned their backs. This prompted Giuliani to add his analysis of what happened.

More from Crooks And Liars:

According to Giuliani, de Blasio had brought it on himself by speaking out about the way police treated black communities.

“When I reflect on all the police officers turning their back, I don’t know, I guess as an ex-mayor, I feel uncomfortable about that, you turn your back on the mayor,” Giuliani explained. “On the other hand, I think at this point I have to say, he’s bringing it on himself. He should have apologized.”

“He should have apologized, not for the murder — he’s not responsible for the murder, he shouldn’t resign, he’s been elected by the people — but he did create an atmosphere of anti-police bias and feeling for a long, long time,” the former mayor continued. “It’s time to say, ‘Maybe I had the wrong perception of my police department. First of all, my police department is not a white police department. Everybody’s a minority in the New York City Police Department.'”

Other Giuliani gems include bringing up the mayor’s biracial son, which he claims was used as a ruse to stoke anti-cop sentiment as well. It’s as bizarre as it sounds.
