Memes get created everyday but few go on to become a viral sensation.
Last year, Kevin Durant put his emotions on the grandest of all stages when he saluted his mother as he was being awarded the NBA’s Most Valuable Player for the 2013-2014 regular season. A tearful KD35 told Wanda Durant that she was “the real MVP” and he couldn’t have accomplished anything without her guidance.
And then, the Internet happened.
Kevin Durant’s inner outpour of his soul was perverted to match every trending topic with “You The Real MVP” memes. In a recent interview with GQ, the reigning top dawg of the league showed that candor once more, just on a polar opposite of the spectrum.
“I was like, man, that was a real emotional moment for me, and you making a joke about it! Like: Damn. Y’all don’t really believe in shit. You don’t have no morals or nothing. You don’t care about nothing but just making fun.”
“How are you supposed to act in the world, when people feel entitled even to a moment like that?” an angry Durant pondered. “I was serious as hell saying that, you know what I’m saying?”
Durant has undeniably been shedding his “nice guy” image in favor of more serene personality in the league. Despite this, his popularity has continued to soar has he eyes his first NBA championship. And he’s not holding any grudges for Black Twitter users who continue to abuse his moment of vulnerability.
“But after a while, it’s all good,” he concluded.
