Back in February of this year, Empire star Taraji P. Henson did what any loving mother would do and came to her son’s defenses in the wake of his traffic stop when he was pulled over and cited for possessing marijuana.

Turns out she was actually in the wrong.

The 44-year-old actress recently apologized to the Glendale, California Police Department after she jumped out and accused them of racially profiling her 20-year-old son, Marcel stemming from a October 2014 traffic stop.

“A mother’s job is not easy and neither is a police officer’s “Sometimes as humans we overreact without gathering all the facts. As a mother in this case I overreacted and for that I apologize,” she posted on her Instagram account. “Thank you to that officer for being kind to my son.”

The Los Angeles Times quickly obtained the police video that showed Marcel being pulled over with incident. It was also alleged that Henson’s son was racially profiled on an unrelated incident that took place on the University of Southern California campus, forcing him to transfer to the more ethic friendly Howard University in Washington, D.C.

Henson’s apology can be seen below. The police video courtesy of TMZ can be seen on the next page.
