Sportsmanship is taught at an early age but one Oregon runner must have forgotten those fundamentals at this past weekend’s Pepsi Team Invitation.
Tanguy Pepiot got cocky with the crowd during the men’s steeplechase and ended up getting his ass chased down by the would-be second place finisher.
Via Yahoo Sports:
The finish line was right in front of him; his competitors somewhere behind him.
Oregon’s Tanguy Pepiot thought he had the win in the bag as he neared the end of the men’s steeplechase at this weekend’s Pepsi Team Invitational. He even started smiling for the cameras and raising his hands over his head to get the crowd going.
As Pepiot slowed down to celebrate, the other guys sped up. Meron Simon, a runner from the University of Washington, gained just enough speed to overtake Pepiot at the line.
Pepiot’s emotions appear to go from pure euphoria to complete confusion, to devestation as he realized he actually lost. Not to take away from Simon’s efforts, but Pepiot basically gave the race away.
Surely, he’ll wait until he crosses the finish line before celebrating any future wins.
Check out the hilarious video in the YouTube player below. Hit the flip to see him get slandered on Pardon the Interruption. Pepiot’s struggle face is oh-so real.
