Tyler, The Creator’s interviews, while rare, are generally insightful. His fourth studio album, Cherry Bomb, new app, Golf Media, and avant garde method of creating gave him plenty to talk about during a recent sit down with Tavis Smiley.

Smiley showed an interest in Tyler’s thought process and ear for music. Speaking on the latter, he asked the producer/rapper and director how he became a fan of legendary musician Roy Ayers.

The conversation then segued into film, as the Odd Future founder spoke about why Pleasantville (1998) was such a great film and how it’s story can be applied to race relations and more. Of course, the duo discussed rappers as well.
