The NYPD officer that was involved in the brutal 2013 attack on SUV driver Alexian Lien and wife Rosalyn Ng on the West Side Highway has been found guilty of riot and assault charges. Wojciech Braszczok, the undercover detective who led the vicious biker gang melee, and a co-defendant fought charges while nine other defendants took plea deals.

The 34-year-old Braszczok and his co-defendant, 36-year-old Robert Sims, beat the most serious charges against them in the New York County Supreme Court Tuesday (Jun. 9) but didn’t walk away unscathed. As reported by the New York Daily News, Braszczok’s attorney viewed the bench trial as a mild victory for his client although he still might face seven years for his role in the biker gang brawl.

More from the Daily News:

“Detective Braszczok has been vindicated,” said defense lawyer John Arlia. “He wishes to move on with his life, and he thanks everyone who has reserved judgement up until this day.”

Sims was convicted on the lesser counts of attempted gang assault and attempted assault, and faces a minimum of 3 1/2 years in prison.

Braszczok, who was off-duty at the time, faces up to seven years on his conviction. He was automatically suspended with the conviction and is likely to lose his job.

Brazczok will have a sentencing hearing on August 5, with Sims facing the same the next day. Brazczok did not make any comments to the media throng outside the courthouse.

Lien’s SUV was surrounded by the biker gang on Sept. 29. 2013 when they were reportedly threatened. In trying to escape, Lien ran over one of the bikers which angered the bike mob more.
