The music streaming wars are really starting to heat up. Today (June 23), Google launched the free version of it Google Play Music streaming service.

Google Play’s $9.99/month service has been active for a couple of years. But today’s launch of its free, ad-supported version comes ahead of next week’s launch of Apple’s music streaming service next week.

Says Google:

For fans looking for an ad-free alternative, they can subscribe to Google Play Music, which allows them to take their music offline, create playlists, and listen to over 30 million songs from the Google Play Music library on any device and as much or as often as they like. A Play Music subscription will also get fans ad-free, offline and background features for music videos on YouTube. And with or without a subscription, you can store and play up to 50,000 songs from your own collection for free.

On Tuesday, June 30, Apple will launch its much discussed Apple Music service, created in collaboration with Beats Music. As for Jay Z’s TIDAL, its CEO recently resigned after three months on the job.

The free, ad-supported version of Google Play Music is already available on the web right here, but won’t be on Android and iOS until next week.
