A veteran volunteer Texas firefighter of Mabank Fire Department is now sitting on the couch for good after a Facebook post regarding Charleston church shooter Dylann Roof he made went viral.

Kurtis Cook spent 23 years on the squad but when he wrote “He needs to be praised for the good deed he has done,” the copy was screenshotted and spread all across the Internet, prompting MFD to release a statement.

“As of 1123 hrs, after an investigation in the allegations being made of Firefighter Kurtis Cook, the Mabank Fire Department Command Staff has terminated Kurtis Cook as a volunteer Firefighter permanently and has trespassed him from all Mabank Fire Department property,” they wrote on Facebook, on June 19. “The Mabank Fire Department does not condone nor promote these type of actions or thoughts. On behalf of all members, the Mabank Fire Department offers our deepest apologies to all that were offended by his actions and comments.”

Seeing that an investigation was conducted, Cook has been vilified as a racist by his own bosses of the past two decades but he sat with KLTV to plead his innocence.

“When I was looking at the threads and, you know, I was just reading down and there was a person there that posted, was donating a large sum of money to the victims, so I just said ‘This person ought to be praised for his good deed,’” Cook claimed. “Making me look like I’m standing with this comment, like I’m supporting this Dylann guy, and I would never do that. I’m not racist, never been racist.”

Mabank’s fire chief declined to be interviewed but he told KTLTV that Cook didn’t deny the allegations and asked what the problem was. He also made no mention of the alleged donation post that could have saved his ass.

“They were getting so much pressure over there that I just went ahead and just let them go ahead and resign me, or terminate me, so they could go ahead and move on with the fire department,” Cook said.

Sounds like Kurt either didn’t want to work anymore or y’know, racist.
