The Donald Trump’s decision to generalize Mexican immigrants as “rapists” and criminals has led NBC to leave him and his Miss America pageants out on the curb.
NBC announced today, June 29, that they would no longer broadcast the The Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants on their network.
“At NBC, respect and dignity for all people are cornerstones of our values. Due to the recent derogatory statements by Donald Trump regarding immigrants, NBCUniversal is ending its business relationship with Mr. Trump,” they said in a statement obtained by Deadline. “To that end, the annual Miss USA and Miss Universe Pageants, which are part of a joint venture between NBC and Trump, will no longer air on NBC .In addition, as Mr. Trump has already indicated, he will not be participating in Celebrity Apprentice on NBC.”
Following his laughable presidential bid, Trump spoke out his ass regarding the country’s North American counterparts, focusing on the extreme negative of a select few.
“When do we beat Mexico at the border?,” he cried. “They’re laughing at us, at our stupidity. And now they are beating us economically. They are not our friend, believe me. … When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They are bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”
Of course there was backlash but Trump promises not to take this lying down. Following the announcement that his services over at NBC were no longer desired, he released a statement revealing his intention to sue the company.
“If NBC is so weak and so foolish to not understand the serious illegal immigration problem in the United States, coupled with the horrendous and unfair trade deals we are making with Mexico, then their contract violating closure of Miss Universe/Miss USA will be determined in court,” it read.
“With my statements on immigration, which happen to be correct, [NBC is] going to take a different stance – that’s okay,” he said. “As far as ending the relationship, I have to do that, because my view on immigration is much different than the people at NBC. You have to stop illegal immigration. I know NBC might disagree with me, but you cannot have illegal immigration.”
