On July 19, Samuel Dubose’s name unfortunately became entered into the #BlackLivesMatter memorial when he was fatally shot in the head by University of Cincinnati police officer Ray Tensing after a traffic stop regarding a front license plate.

Dubose, who was unarmed at the time, died at the scene, immediately sparking a public outrage, especially from close family members who described him as an honest and caring man.

The recently released body cam video shows that Tensing did indeed shoot Dubose without a probable cause and has earned himself an indictment for a murder charge. According to Cincinnati.com, it is the first time a police officer in the Ohio city has been charged with murder for killing someone while on duty.

It’s an absolute tragedy that anyone would behave in this manner,” said Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters. “It was senseless. It’s just horrible. He purposefully killed him.”

Deters also added, he’s never seen a case of “such poor policing.”

Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley and other city officials are pulling out all the stops to try to quell any civil unrest, reminiscent of Baltimore and Ferguson.

If convicted, the 25-year-old Tensing, faces 15 years to life in prison.

“He wasn’t dealing with someone wanted for murder. He was dealing with someone without a front license plate,” Deters continued. “Some people want to believe Mr. DuBose did something violent toward the officer,” Deters said. “He did not. He did not at all.”
