The saying goes that your life flashes before your own eyes the moment before you die, and Vicki Gardner can attest to that.
Yet, miraculously, she’s still alive.
Gardner, the executive director of the local chamber of commerce, was routinely being interviewed on the morning of August 26 by WDBJ when was shot in the back at the hands of that garbage Vester Lee Flanagan b.k.a. Bryce Williams, resulting in the loss of one of her kidneys and part of her colon.
Reporter Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward weren’t as lucky and were pronounced dead at the scene. Flanagan later committed suicide as police honed in on his position.
“I was laying down. I realized it was quiet and everybody was down, and I didn’t know where he was,” Gardner tells FOX News’ Greta Van Susteren in her first interview since the shooting. “I felt as though the next shot — I knew the next shot, he was just going to shoot me in the head, because that was what he was doing.”
“The only thing I could think of was, play dead,” Gardner remembered.
“I was waiting for him to shoot me in the head. When he shot me in the back, I said, ‘I’m going to be paralyzed,’ and then I waited,” she said. “It goes real quick. Your world goes in front of you, and it did, real fast, and I said, ‘I’m ready.'”
Gardner also questioned the cosmos as to why the younger victims lived and she didn’t but she vowed to fulfil her life’s purpose.
