Sanaa Lathan is reuniting with her Love & Basketball director Gina Prince-Bythewood for an upcoming television series that is dripping with relevancy, in a manner of speaking.

FOX Broadcasting Co. is prepping an event series that centers around the aftermath of a Black police officer gunning down a white teenager in the heart of Tennessee, Deadline reports. The show has apparently been in development for some time, as a script for the pilot has already been created and the network plans on ordering the full series shortly after its completion.

The still-untitled event series, will pit Lathan as an expert investigator who digs into the police shooting case, alongside a special prosecutor who operates underneath the Department of Justice’s order. As they work together, topics such as public debates, media frenzy and the inevitable social unrest and protests look to divide the town in half.

It goes without saying that the show’s events will mirror much of the ills the country has shamelessly put on the display for the rest of the world to see within the past two years. However, reversing the race roles of the cop/suspect dynamic does let audiences miss out on an opportunity to see the dirt that goes on behind the scenes, which eventually leads to many authorities being let off the hook.

Prince-Bythewood will direct the event series and write and executive produce alongside her husband, Reggie Rock Bythewood.
