The entire Hip-Hop community watched from afar as members of Russell Simmons highly questionable RushCard service missed a few meals thanks to an unspecified glitch in the matrix. Now it looks a select few users are demanding retribution.

Daily Mail Online is reporting that at least five RushCard holders have filed a class action lawsuit against the Hip-Hop mogul, in the aftermath of thousands of accounts being frozen–some for up to twelve days–without money being shelled out. The end result was naturally users failing to make payments on life necessities such as rent, light and water bills, as well as car notes and groceries.

The suit states: “Plaintiff’s and class members were fraudulently induced into purchasing RushCards and depositing money into their RushCard accounts because they were led to believe their funds would be ‘safe and protected’ with unhindered access to these monies.” The plaintiff’s are also demanding unspecified damages for “restitution to those who suffered harm from not being able to access their cash, a judgement awarding damages and further damages for defendant’s knowing, willful and intentional conduct.”

Celebrity Business Venture Fails That Cost Millions

As of October 22, Simmons claimed that his 12-year-old service was back and running, which was a contrast to some user accounts that their earnings had been wiped cleaned once they regained access to RushCard servers. Simmons also defended RushCard against the naysayers writing, I created this industry for people who needed access I’m proud of this innovation and the lives it has changed” before adding a “RushCard” hashtag.
