Tragedy has struck in the small town of Chester, S.C., this after the hit-and-run death of an 11-year-old boy. La’Darious Wylie was struck by a vehicle and killed last month but not before saving his sister’s life as he shoved her out of harm’s way.
La’Darious and his seven-year-old sister, Sha’Vonta, were waiting at their bus stop on Oct. 27 when a car barrelled through and didn’t stop. The brave big brother pushed his sister to safety as he absorbed the blow. La’Darious died the next day from his injuries.

La’Darious lunged and pushed his sister, Sha’Vonta, out of the way at the school bus stop in Chester Oct. 27, said Elizabeth McCrorey, the mother of both children.
“He knew to look out for her,” Elizaberth McCrorey said.
Her daughter told the police what happened and that by the time she was able to get up, the car was gone, McCrorey said.
But that heroic action by La’Darious, just 11 years old, barely 4 and a half feet tall and about 75 pounds, means that his sister survived to do things like Tuesday night – go to choir practice.
He sacrificed his own life so that his sister might sing.
Michelle Johnson, 57, was the driver of the vehicle and was charged with felony hit and run resulting in death. She posted a $25,000 bond last week.
La’Darious was put to rest last night (Nov. 5), this after his mother graciously donated his organs for other suffering children. There is a petition in Chester County to rename a local area, Brooklyn Park, after the boy. The county supervisor is on board with the name change.
