Support for Charlie Sheen has been pouring in since he confirmed that he was indeed HIV positive.
A new report is claming that the veteran actor spent a whopping $1.6 million on prostitutes in 2013 alone–two years after he was diagnosed with the often lethal virus–and made the ladies of the night sign confidentiality agreements in exchange for silence. Sheen, 50, is now facing legal action from several of his sexual partners who maintain they were in the dark of his HIV status, including porn star Bree Olson, who is currently shopping her interviews to outlets for compensation.
If there is anyone who expertly knows about publicly living with HIV, it is former NBA legend, Magic Johnson. In 1991, his career was cut short after he revealed to the world he had been diagnosed with the virus that causes AIDS. Instead of becoming a recluse, Johnson actually embraced the opposite; becoming a celebrity advocate for the cause while dispelling the noting that a diagnosis results in a death sentence and increasing his visibility by becoming an astute businessman in the sports and entertainment world.
Following Sheen’s fearless interview and revelation, Johnson took to Twitter to commend his contemporary writing, ““I wish [Charlie Sheen] and his family the best. With the advancement in treatments and medicine he can fight this disease and live a long life,” before adding “In Charlie Sheen breaking his silence, I hope he joins me in educating the world about HIV/AIDs.”
Also in Sheen’s corner is his equally famous father, Martin, who saluted his son for stepping up to the plate.
“It was the most difficult thing he’d ever done,” Martin, 75 told attendees at an event at the Ritz-Carlton resort in Naples, Florida, according to the Naples Daily News. “And he kind of sealed it when he called Matt Lauer last week and asked if he could go on.”
During said interview with Lauer, Charlie Sheen explicitly stated he didn’t wish to become “the poster man” for HIV awareness but as he the virus forces him to clean up his act, we shall see how much those words stick to the wall.
