It is hard to remember that Willow Smith is just 15-years-old at times.

The expressive offspring of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith is already an accomplished musician, actress and fashion model and often comes across wise beyond her time on this earth.

In a surprise maneuver today, December 11, the youngster released her debut album titled Ardipithecus in the form of digital download via Roc Nation. In 2010, she dropped her inaugural single, the platinum “Whip My Hair” on the label but never released a formal album. However, Ardipithecus is sharp departure from the bubbly kid pop that she introduced as a tyke singer.

“Ardipithecus Ramidus is the scientific name of the first hominid bones found on earth,” she explained to The Fader in an email. “I wanted to name my musical compilation after it because while I was making these songs I was in such a transitional state. Digging deep in the soil of my heart and finding bits and pieces of my ancient self that tell stories, which end up being the lyrics to the songs. Ardipithecus is my first album in my entire career and it makes me feel so blessed to be able to share my evolution with the LightEaters as I continue excavating my inner worlds…”

The album doesn’t feature her equally famous brother, Jaden Smith but does employ vocals from her older half-brother Trey on the track “Not So Different.”
