Sketchers is being sued by Nike for allegedly stealing the company’s swag, more than once. The multi-billion dollar sneaker giant filed an infringement lawsuit against Skechers in Portland Monday (Jan. 4).
Nike accuses the Southern California-based brand of jacking eight of their patented designs issued between Jan. 2014 and March 2015. Specifically the Skechers Burst, Women’s Flex Appeal, Men’s Flex Advantage as well as the Girl’s Skech Appeal and Boy’s Flex Advantage, and any more shoes with curiously similar designs, “regardless of the model name.”
The suit states that the “overall appearance of the designs of the Nike patents and the corresponding designs of Skechers’ infringing shoes are substantially the same.” Included in the documents are detailed diagrams of the sneakers in question, and a Complex article titled: “Sketchers Ripped Off Boost and Flyknit in One Sneaker and Completely Failed.”
Nike wants an injunction to stop Sketchers from selling the shoes, as well as damages and/or a peace of the profits.
Skechers hasn’t publicly commented on Nike’s allegations. Read the full lawsuit below.
