Lil Wayne landed a new Super Bowl Commercial for Apartments.com based off The Jeffersons. Young Money’s main guy stars alongside Jeff Goldblum and faux George Washington  for a “Moving on Up” performance that should’ve been played out a long time ago.

Goldblum (spokesperson for Apartments.com) sings and plays piano suspended from the side of a skyscraper moving from floor to floor. He lands on a unit where “Weezy and George” happen to be barbecuing for their Super Bowl party. And of course, there’s a choir involved.

The Super Bowl falling during Black History Month is an interesting coincidence. Keeping that in mind, Weezy basically looks like an upgraded field slave in his bucket hat standing with Washington— the forefather of America who even on his deathbed, was so hopelessly devoted to slavery that he refused to free a longtime slave that attempted escape more than once.

At the base, this commercial feels awkwardly exploitative, lazy and outdated. The Jeffersons, which was a spinoff off All In the Family, dealt with the racial disparities faced by Black people simply trying to “move on up” and grab a “piece of the pie” — a thinly veiled nod to the American Dream. The character of George Jefferson started out as a neighbor of notably bigoted character, Archie Bunker.

But if you push those observations aside, you might just enjoy Weezy proudly cheesing with his signature apple pie in hand.
