Pelé is considered by many to be the greatest soccer player ever, and he is still revered around the world and his contribution to “the beautiful game,” a phrase he’s said to have coined. An upcoming biopic Pelé: Birth of a Legend, focuses on the early life and rise of the Brazillian football star and will be released this May.
Written and directed by Jeff Zimbalist and Michael Zimbalist, the film stars Kevin de Paula as Pelé, Vincent D’Onofrio, Rodrigo Santoro, and Diego Boneta. The film is based on the relationship between the future soccer superstar and his father. It was shot mostly on location in Rio de Janerio and features young actors in the movie who are also prodigious footballers in their own right.
