Respected music industry executive Irv Gotti is partnering with BET and Tidal to create a new scripted anthology series entitled Tales

According to Billboard, the show is taking the lyrics of classic Hip-Hop songs and turning them into into three-act, 60-minute narratives. Similar to Tales From The Crypt, Black Mirror or  The Twilight Zone, each show will have a different director, screenwriter and cast each week.

The show is currently in development and slated to debut in 2017. The shows will air on BET first, and then Tidal will stream exclusive director’s cut versions of the episodes.

Tales will be produced by Gotti’s company Visionary Ideas. N.W.A.’s “F*ck The Police” and Beyoncé’s and Jay Z’s “On The Run” are said to be among the songs getting the song story treatment.

Gotti tells Billboard:

This isn’t no reality show sh*t and not a video. I’m going to tell a story like only I can tell a story and involve the Hip-Hop culture, which is colorless. Visionary Ideas is DreamWorks times 100, which is a crazy statement as big as DreamWorks is. But that’s my goal.

Also in a statement to Billboard, BET’s President of Programming Stephen Hills says:

Obviously, BET played a lot of videos in its infancy. Now that storytelling has evolved as we work to bring viewers new exciting content that reflects some of the greatest stories that Hip-Hop has told in the 20th and 21st centuries.

This is not Irv Gotti’s first foray into television. He starred in Vh1’s Gotti’s Way, a reality show centered around his professional and personal life. This is perhaps the most high-profile production Gotti has been involved in since his days of founding and running Murder Inc. Records. Gotti has admitted to taking a sabbatical from the music industry in the past and this seems to be his coming out party.
