Federal authorities are helping to investigate the death of Prince after prescription painkillers were reportedly found at his Paisley Park mansion. The Hennepin County Sheriff asked the DEA to assist in the investigation, NBC News confirmed Wednesday (April 27).

The exact prescription drugs discovered at Prince’s home were not revealed, and it’s unclear if they relate to his untimely passing. The DEA wants to determine “where the medications came from,” and which prescriptions were obtained by Prince himself.

TMZ reported that Prince was taking Percocet for pain in his hips, brought on by years of jumping around on stage. He underwent double hip replacement surgery several years ago.

Days before his death, Prince reportedly overdosed on prescription drugs, though his former lawyer and manager L. Londell McMillan says he was “not on any drugs that would cause concern.”

An autopsy was performed on Prince’s body last week. Toxicology results aren’t expected for weeks.

While the death investigation proceeds, Prince’s family members are looking to receive money from his estate. Prince didn’t have a will, according to documents filed by his sister Tyka Nelson,

Per Minnesota law, Tyka and his half-siblings are entitled to equal cuts of the multi-million dollar fortune.
