Warren G could have really used an assist from his late friend Nate Dogg with this one. Somehow Mr. G-Funk was recruited to sing “Take Me Out To The Ball Game” at Wrigley Field, and it did not go well.

Someone thought it would be a good idea to have Warren G sing the baseball anthem during the 7th inning stretch of the Chicago Cubs game against the Atlanta Braves.

“Take Me Out To The Ball” game is a longtime American tradition, and for many people, it’s a song that was learned after their “A-B-C’s” and “Old McDonald Had A Farm.” Warren G does not seem to be one of those people.

Warren greeted the fans over the microphone saying, “Cubbie fans, mount up,” borrowing from the opening to his 1994 hit “Regulate.” But from that point on Warren did not bring any chords, strings or melodies. He opened the song leaving out words and trying to improvise by holding notes. He sang:

Take me to the ball game

Take me out with the crowd

Buy me some peanuts and crackerjacks

I don’t care if I never come back

The words are actually:

Take me out to the ball game

Take me out with the crowd

Buy me some peanuts and crackerjacks

I don’t care if I never get back

Reading it, it may not look so bad. But actually hearing it is another story.

The day wasn’t a total loss though. He did at least throw a decent first pitch prior to the game.

Much better than 50 Cent’s first pitch at a New York Mets game a while back. Maybe better than Chance The Rapper’s throw at a White Sox game too.
