On Monday (May 9) a district judge in Arkansas long suspected of abusing his power resigned from his post after investigators allegedly unearthed as many as 4,500 photos of naked young men identified as former defendants on his computer.

Earlier this year documents were filed in which several men – and one minor – accused the now former Cross County District Judge Joseph Boeckmann of offering them reduced sentences and penalties in exchange for “community service” at the property of the disgraced judge.

What ensued were the kind of humiliating activities that are in direct violation of the Geneva Convention. Okay, that was an exaggeration, but still this stuff is pretty demeaning.

Reports Gawker:

According to the Arkansas Judicial Discipline and Disability Commission, the recently recovered photos show naked young men “in various poses inside the judge’s home and outside in his yard” after having apparently been paddled.

“The paddle appears in photographs and has been identified by defendants as belonging to the judge,” wrote the Commission in a letter sent to Boeckmann’s lawyers earlier this month. “Please accept this as notice to your client to not destroy [or] otherwise dispose of this paddle or other devices used to cause these red marks.”

But according to NBCNews, not all of the judge’s extracurricular activities involved a paddle and were somewhat less humiliating.

In another case, Boeckmann reduced a misdemeanor traffic violation and asked the defendant, identified in court documents as W.M., to bring three bags of cans to his home. After the judge offered him a drink — which he declined — “Boeckmann informed W.M. that he needed W.M. to pull 2 cans from the bags and bend over as if he were picking up the cans.”

The judge then instructed him “on how to pose and spread his legs farther apart,” the document states.

In documents filed in February, Boeckmann denied the allegations — saying that the photographs were used “to corroborate participation in community service.”

We’re really surprised the judge didn’t try to go with the “I was just trying to scare them straight” routine, but then again he can’t really say anything about this was straight, right?
