LeBron James isn’t completely sold on Steph Curry winning the NBA’s Most Valuable Player award again this year. Curry doesn’t care what he thinks though.

In a press conference after a Cleveland Cavaliers practice, two-time NBA MVP LeBron James shared his thoughts on Steph Curry joining him in a small group of players who have won the league’s top honor two years in a row.

Talking with just a pinch of salt, LeBron said:

I think sometimes the word ‘valuable’ or best player of the year, you can have different results. Look at Steph’s numbers. He averaged 30, he led the league in steals, he was 90-50-40 (shooting percentages from the free-throw line, field and 3-pointers), and they won 73 (games). So, I don’t, do you have any debate over that, really, when it comes to that award? But when you talk about most ‘valuable’ then you can have a different conversation, so, take nothing away from him, he’s definitely deserving of that award, for sure.

LeBron’s argument seems to be that Curry’s Golden State Warriors team was probably still going to perform well without him on the court. Unlike his own Cavaliers who probably would not have finished first in the Eastern Conference had he not been playing. It’s a valid argument, but it still sound petty petty.

Curry, who made history this season by becoming the first player to ever win the MVP in a unanimous vote, heard LeBron’s comments. Or maybe he didn’t? When asked by reporters what he thought about ‘Bron’s comments he simply replied:

“I’ve gotten really good at ignoring people.”

That’s perhaps his best skill outside of shooting and dribbling. Curry’s ability to compete in the NBA was questioned the minute he was drafted by the Warriors in the 2009 NBA Draft. He was considered too small and he suffered a number of ankle injuries early in his career. But, in the last three seasons he has emerged and perhaps eclipsed LeBron as being the best player in the NBA.

It was all good just two years ago when LeBron, then playing for the Miami Heat, was gushing over Curry’s skills.

Time changes things. Watch Curry’s reaction below.
