David Dennis has been faced with an ugly reality that plagues both Black men and women in the United States of late. The family man and writer recorded an emotional video for his son in the event he was unfortunately killed by police in the wake of recent tragedies involving Black men and officers.

The BBC published Dennis’ video, which opens on a somber note and the mention of Alton Sterling’s death at the hands of Baton Rouge police officers. Using a clip of the altercation between Sterling and the officers, Dennis bravely spoke to his son about witnessing Sterling’s 15-year-old son, Cameron, breaking down in tears at a press conference highlighting his father’s tragic death.

Dennis, who penned a similar open letter to his son previously on Bossip, hammered down his point in the video that in case he is killed that there should be facts that the media or police won’t have the ability to manipulate or corrupt.

“But in the event that does happen, I want you to know that no matter how my death would be justified, that I didn’t deserve to die. I didn’t deserve to get killed by police. I deserve to be home with you,” said Dennis.
