Nelly‘s debut album catapulted him to stardom back in 2000. 16 years later Country Grammar has put him in the history books.

When Jay Z rapped “only dudes moving units, Em, Pimp Juice and us” he may have put himself in a elite category that he isn’t even a part of yet.

Eminem and now Nelly are just two of the six rap artists to have a single album sell 10 million records.

The RIAA just rewarded Nelly with a diamond plaque for his breakthrough album Country Grammar that brought introduced us to sing-songy raps long before the Future‘s and Young Thug’s of the world took the style and ran with it.

The accomplishment puts the St. Louis, Mo. native in the same room with Tupac, MC Hammer, The Notorious B.I.G., Outkast and the aforementioned Eminem as the only artists with albums to sell 10 million copies.

Eminem – The Eminem Show

Eminem – The Marshall Mathers LP

MC Hammer ‘Please Hammer – Don’t Hurt ‘Em

Outkast – Speakerboxxx/The Love Below

Tupac – All Eyez On Me

Tupac – Greatest Hits

The Notorious B.I.G. – Life After Death

Even though it’s been a while since Nelly had a hit as big as the ones he had early in his career, it looks like dude can live off his early work for the rest of his life.
