The family of Sandra Bland, the Black woman who died under suspicious circumstances while in jail after a suspect traffic stop, has settled her wrongful death suit. The Texas Department of Public Safety and the Waller County Jail will pay the Bland family $1.9 million.

The family’s lawyer, Cannon Lambert, confirmed the settlement with ABC 13.

According to the New York Daily News$1.8 million of the settlement will be paid by Waller County Jail while the Texas Department of Public Safety will pay another $100,000. However, the settlement doesn’t involve either party admitting to any wrongdoing.

Bland was just 28 when she died in July 2015. The arresting officer was fired after a Grand Jury found him guilty of committing perjury by lying in his written report about Bland’s arrest.

Despite the settlement, we’re sure the Bland family would much rather have Sandra back alive.
