Vic Mensa doesn’t hold his tongue when it comes to injustice against African-Americans, so don’t expect him to hold his tongue on Lil Wayne’s Black Lives Matter comments.
The Chicago-rapper hosted his own Reddit “Ask Me Anything” session on Wednesday, and of course, someone asked him what he thought about Wayne’s Nightline interview where he said, “I don’t feel connected to a damn thing that ain’t got nothing to do with me…my life matter.”
Mensa wrote:
“i think it’s a very ignorant, selfish & isolated position to take,” Mensa said in response. “because even someone as big as wayne is just a black man minus all of his ice and fame, and can be treated the same way.”
Mensa isn’t the only rapper with something to say about Wayne’s comments. Royce 5’9 called them “dumb” and Jeezy said that Wayne has been living on an island for most of his life and probably doesn’t understand. 9th Wonder had a Twitter battle royale with fans about the comments, urging that people stop expecting woke answers from artists who rap about the exact opposite of what Black Lives Matter stands for.
Mensa also offered his thoughts on the movement itself saying, “[I] think the black lives matter movement is incredibly positive. [It’s] opened a lot of discussion and discourse about the problems in our society and communities and thats important.”
Before his Nightline interview, Lil Wayne previously stated that he didn’t know that racism existed because he’s never experienced it. Although he accused the NBA Oklahoma City Thunder organization of being racist towards him back in 2012 when they denied him front row seats to a playoff game. By the way, Wayne didn’t have a ticket to the game, he just felt he deserved to be there front and center.
