Pioneering Hip-Hop artist Kurtis Blow suffered a heart attack last Saturday and he’s lucky police were there to help him.

ABC 7 News in Los Angeles is reporting that police officers were responding to a call about a robbery in progress at a bus stop. The call wound up being a mistake, because when they arrived, all they saw was Blow [born Kurtis Walker], arguing with his son.

As the officers calmed the situation, Blow lost consciousness and collapsed. The officers say that’s when their instincts kicked in and they started to tend to the fallen legend.

“I was holding his head, making sure he was stable, making sure his airway was open,” Officer Chris Vege told reporters.

Blow went in and out of consciousness a few times as officers used CPR to resuscitate him until paramedics arrived and rushed him to the hospital.

“They got there so fast,” said Blow. “If they got there any later, I would have died. I want to thank the officers from the bottom of my heart, no pun intended.”

Blow still got bars.
