Lupe Fiasco burst onto the scene in 2006 after slowly grinding on the mixtape scene and a feature on one of Kanye West‘s early solo hits in “Touch The Sky” from the Late Registration album. Fiasco has since forged his own lane but hasn’t forgotten his Chicago brethren in his time of need after he sent a message of love and support during a recent performance.

Lupe performed Tuesday night at the Crest Theatre in Sacramento, Calif., the same city where West had his now-infamous meltdown before being hospitalized. Fiasco paused his set to give the crowd a lesson in just how tough performing can be on a recording artist and the physical and mental toll it eventually takes on them. He then shifted focus to West, which was met with applause.

“We want to send prayers out to my big bro, Kanye,” said Lupe. “He say a lot of goofy sh*t sometimes but he from Chicago so it don’t even f*cking matter.”
