MTV’s annual “Hottest MC’s In The Game” list has been revealed and people have some serious questions.

MTV has to be trolling us all with this list, as usual. Since its inception, “Hottest MCs In The Game” list has been one of the most debated topics in Hip-Hop. Each year a panel of Hip-Hop journalists, personalities and others debate on who they feel are the “hottest” names in Hip-Hop. As they always stress, this is not a “best” or “most lyrical” list. It is a list of people who are the most relevant and talked about artists in the genre.

Whether or not it is “right” is always up for debate. People usually disagree on how high or low an artist should be ranked. But this year there are some huge gaping holes in the list.

The most obvious being the omission of Gucci Mane. In case you didn’t notice, Gucci Mane has released three albums in less than a year after getting out of prison this Spring. He’s also recorded music with 60% of the artists that are on the “Hottest” MC list because guess what, Gucci Mane is the hottest guy to work with right now. Oh, and he’s featured on Rae Sremmurd’s “Black Beatles.” You know, that rap song that was the number one song in the country.

Aside from Gucci Mane, both Lil Yachty and Quavo of Migos can make arguments for being left off this list if we are strictly talking about “hottest.”

Yachty’s name has been in headlines all year either because of his music or what people think of his music. Quavo alone has emerged as one of the most influential rappers of the last few years as every other rapper, including many of the ones on MTVs list, have borrowed his trademark flow or has enlisted his services.

Meek Mill and 2 Chainz are also noticeably absent. Again, this has to be a troll job. As we’ve witnessed in past years, the debates after the list has been revealed have usually been more intriguing than the list itself.

As much as we love Kendrick Lamar, how is he on this list? He practically took the year off in 2016 only releasing a collection of throwaway tracks from To Pimp A Butterfly and turning in a feature verse here and there.

Again, this has to be a troll job. Kanye West is the “Hottest MC In The Game” in 2016? Really, really though?

As we’ve witnessed in past years, the debates after the list has been revealed have usually been more intriguing than the list itself. To see how the MTV2 braintrust came to their conclusions, peep the video here.
