Live from house arrest, Gunplay goes jackin’ for beats, this time snatching DMX’s “What’s My Name” as his instrumental of choice. The Maybach Music Group rapper’s version is titled “No Church,” and is devoted to all of the stool pigeons out there, apparently. Considering that most rappers wouldn’t touch, let alone do justice to the Self Service and Irv Gotti-produced beat, Gunplay deserves kudos for this.

Don Logan chews through the track with a spastic flow that sounds almost off beat, but remains quite effective. “No Church” is scheduled to appear on the MMG member’s forthcoming mixtape, Cops & Robbers, which is expected to drop January 18. The project will serve as the precursor to Gunplay’s proper debut album Medellin, set to release some time in 2013. Here’s to hoping that the Miami native will stay out of the watchful eye of the law, and continue to focus on the music. We’d hate to see one of Hip-Hop Wired’s artist to watch for 2013 in shackles, man.

Both the track and its brash artwork can be found below. Do you think Gunplay did the DMX classic justice? Sound off in the comments.
