Just a couple of years ago, Vado was one of the hottest rappers in the game. But after landing a record deal with Interscope Records in 2011, the Harlem rapper’s once deafening buzz got real quiet. The “Speakin’ Tungs” rapper recently revealed that he wasn’t dropped from Interscope and plans to reignite his stalled career with his forthcoming Slime Flu 3 mixtape.

In a recent interview with XXL, Vado explained that the only reason he is no longer signed to Interscope is because he asked to leave. In hindsight, he feels rocking with the house that Jimmy Iovine built wasn’t the best of moves. “I feel like I shouldn’t have even went all the way to the West Coast,” Vado told XXL. “I feel I should’ve stayed grounded with the New York labels. They understand and know me so they know how to handle me, they know what to do. You go all the way over there; they don’t know what’s going on. So now, I gotta fix everything up and I gotta work with their music. It was just a whole big difference to the point that I had to ask for my walking papers.”

Vado then pointed to the Game, Chief Keef and Kendrick Lamar as examples of artists on the label that had to go at it for self rather than depend on the industry machine. The Cam’Ron affiliate feels that he was better off having to do that back home in NYC rather than in California where Interscope is based.

Now, Vado has his sights set on releasing Slime Flu 3  in the near future and it will feature the likes of Fred Da Godson, Gunplay and his old uptown running mate Jae Millz.

“Slime Flu 3 is straight hip-hop. It brings you to the ’90s but also gives you that 2K flavor and style,” said Vado of his new project which he says will be on the level of the first Slime Flu. “It’s all the way ’90s as far as lyrics and concepts. It’s real. I’m not even gonna lie, SF3 is a mixtape that I like. Meaning I gave what I wanted to give, I didn’t change up nothing, nobody told me, “Nah that’s not hot, do this.” It’s what I wanted to give.”
