The past few years, media has placed a scope on the new West Coast movement being spearheaded by a myriad of Southern California MCs, including its most recent diaper dandy Kendrick Lamar. Somewhere along the line, Northern California has been disassociated with the budding movement, and while NoCal greatly differs from its southern counterpart, they too have a deep Hip-Hop lineage.

Talented up-and-comer Locksmith shows and proves on behalf of his native Bay Area on “Livin’ Loaded.” The organic visuals for the track show the rapper’s Richmond, CA roots, family and all.

Locksmith displays a skillful flow on the string-heavy tune, created by rapper and producer Brandun DeShay.  Olamide Faison croons his way through the heater’s soulful chorus.

Before struggle rappers receive a gleam of hope, be clear that you and Locksmith are not the same. The young MC’s feet are firmly planted in the game, having already collaborated with Ski Beats, EA-Ski and GLC. He’s also been a finalist on the Sway host MTV’s Freestyle Battle Championship that Sway a few years back. Now, Locksmith is currently working on his forthcoming project, The Green Box, on which “Livin’ Loaded” will appear.
