Alicia Keys is said to be singing the national anthem at the Super Bowl next month, a source told the Associated Press.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity the person revealed that the muli-Grammy winner will set things off ahead of Beyoncé, who’s billed for the halftime show.
Beyoncé’s set will also include Destiny’s Child members Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams.
Earlier in the month, DC announced the release of their first original music in more than five years and dropped the track, “Nuclear,” last week. “One of the reasons I connect to the Super Bowl is that I approach my shows like an athlete,” the singer told GQ magazine. “I watch my performances, and I wish I could enjoy them, but I see the light that I was late. I see, ‘Oh God, that hair did not work.’ Or ‘I should never do that again.’ I try to perfect myself. I want to grow, and I’m always eager for new information.”
Keys, released her latest, Girl On Fire, last November. The album sold 159,000 copies in its first week, debuting atop the Billboard album charts.
This year’s Super Bowl will be held in New Orleans on Feb. 3. The teams who will make it to the big game will be determined this Sunday with the San Francisco 49ers playing the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC championship game, and the New England Patriots going up against the Baltimore Ravens, in the AFC championship.
