After the Dallas Mavericks’ NBDL affiliate Texas Legends reached out to Allen Iverson in an attempt to lure the former star back into the NBA, the iconic basketball player has respectfully declined the offer.

“I thank Donnie [Nelson] and Dallas for the consideration and while I think the D-League is a great opportunity, it is not the route for me,” Iverson revealed on Twitter today. “I realize my actions contributed to my early departure from the NBA, should God provide me another opportunity I will give it my all.”

As reported yesterday, The Texas LegendsĀ have tried in vain all year to sign Iverson and ramped up their efforts after their team moved back to the top of the list in the D-League’s waiver line. This move, which was the result of former Legends player Mike James signing a guaranteed contract with the Mavericks, meant they’d have a direct path to signing Iverson if he could be convinced to put his name in the D-League’s player pool. However, it looks like Iverson will not be taking the franchise up on its offer.

“My dream has always been to complete my legacy in the NBA,” Iverson tweeted moments ago. “Not a day goes by that I am not asked when am I coming back, we all must accept my return is not up to just me.”
