A mom in St. Louis was forced to attend fourth grade with her son because he was acting up in class, but she’s decided that the punishment is no longer financially feasible. Veronica Williams went with her son to Barack Obama Elementary (yes, that’s the real name) after she was told that the 10-year-old was no longer allowed to attend without her.

She has since stopped going for fear of losing her job, and the child has been suspended. “It’s frustrating,” she said. “It’s ridiculous. I [did] it for two weeks.”

The day that the child arrived at school without adult supervision officials gave her a bottom line. “They told me if an adult don’t come sit with him he cannot come to school. I was willing to do anything with the school. Whatever type of help they were trying to give and I’m still trying to do it, but as far as someone having to sit in school with him is ridiculous.”

Williams’ partner, Tiara Newlon, also stepped in to go to with the youngster, who was allegedly disrupting his class. “They say he talks back and fights,” Newlon explained. “They’re saying his behavior is out of control. We told him we don’t have this problem at home, it’s only at school.”

School officials won’t release details on what the child did for his mother to receive such an ultimatum.  Chief Administrative Officer Phillip Boyd said in a statement that they are “committed to providing students with the most productive and safe learning environment possible,” and that the school has a “responsibility to ensure that the entire learning community is safe for all parties.”

Williams denies that her son misbehaves. He has yet to be let back into school without being accompanied by an adult.
